Mildred L. Scarborough, 99, of St. Paul died Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at Howard County Medical Center in St. Paul, Nebraska.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday at Zion United Methodist Church near Archer. The Reverend Janet Burgel will officiate.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., Friday at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Burial will be held in Rose Hill Cemetery in Palmer, Nebraska.
Memorials are suggested to the Palmer Fire Department & EMT's, Zion United Methodist Church at Archer or to the family's choice.
Mildred was born on a farm east of Palmer in Merrick County to William and Anna (Otto) Blauhorn on June 26, 1914.
She received her education in a country school, District 58. After her schooling, being the oldest daughter, she felt she should help her mother with the work in the home. She also helped neighbors when a new baby was born.
Since her childhood, she attended the country church near Archer and finished catechism in 1929, was baptized and joined the church.
On June 10, 1936, she was united in marriage to W. Laurence Friedrichsen, at her parent's home by Rev. John Weston.
They made their home on a farm southeast of Palmer. To this union three sons were born.
W. Laurence passed away on December 1, 1951. She continued to live on the farm. The two older sons with the help of other family members continued to farm.
On November 25, 1959 she married Harry Scarborough at the Archer Zion United Methodist Church and then moved to a farm in Howard County. Harry passed away on June 12, 1980.
In November 2002, she moved from the farm to an apartment in St. Paul.
She was a member of the Zion United Methodist Church of Archer, United Methodist Women and Loyal Workers Sunday School Class and helped with Bible School. She was also a member of the Home Improvement Social Club.
Mildred enjoyed being outside watching the sun rise and set, gardening, yard work and her many flowers, her many bus tours and trips by car, meeting new friends and playing cards with her friends. She enjoyed having her family so near. She was always ready to help her family.
Survivors of the immediate family is one son, Robert Friedrichsen of Palmer; a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Friedrichsen of Palmer; eleven grandchildren, Carolyn Heuertz, Jeff Friedrichsen, Cheryl Kucera, Douglas Friedrichsen, Lonnie Friedrichsen, Donnie Friedrichsen, Kurt Friedrichsen, Mitch Friedrichsen, Lisa Brumbaugh, Rex Friedrichsen and Chad Friedrichsen; four step grandchildren, Kathy Woods, Dale Davis, Machelle Fleck, and Sherrie Pilage; numerous great grandchildren and great great-grandchildren; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Edna & Tom Shull of Central City and Ina Jean Giles of Broken Bow; one brother and sister-in-law, Orville & Barbara Blauhorn of Palmer; and nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husbands, W. Laurence Friedrichsen and Harry Scarborough, parents; two sons, Dale and Don Friedrichsen; two infant sisters; an infant grandson; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ervin & Bonnie Blauhorn and Elmer and Helen Blauhorn; a sister & brother-in-law, Dorothy & Frank Scharvin; one stepson Robert Scarborough; and a brother-in-law, Charles Giles.
