Mildred O. Abbott

Mildred O. Abbott, 84, of Palmer died Thursday, January 27, 2011 at Heritage Living Center in St. Paul.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday at the United Methodist Church in Palmer. The Reverend Martin Leeper will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Palmer. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m., Sunday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church in Palmer, Palmer EMT's or to the Burton-Beyer American Legion in Palmer.

Greenway Funeral Home in Palmer is in charge of the arrangements.

Mildred was born February 7, 1926 to William & Olive (Williams) White at Eustis, Nebraska.

The family moved to the Cozad area where she attended schools in that area and attended the Cozad High School.

She met and was united in marriage to Oren Abbott on October 21, 1942. To this union the couple was blessed with three daughters.

The couple moved to Palmer in July of 1959 where they had a honey bee business for many years. In 1980, they built, owned and operated the Country Package Store until 1988 when they retired due to health reasons.

Mildred loved to babysit her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She baked many cakes, including her children's and grandchildren's wedding cakes. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, bowling and she and Oren square danced in their earlier years. Mildred was always one to pitch in and help when someone was in need.

Mildred was a member of the United Methodist Church, a permanent member of the American Legion Auxilary and the American Disabled Veterans.

She is survived by three daughters & sons-in-law, Vicki & LeRoy Zehr and Sandi Schlueter all of Palmer and Debra & David Swadley of Creston, Iowa; eight grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and a brother & sister-in-law, Vern & Wilda White of Cozad.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Oren, son-in-law Jack Schlueter, sister Opal Koch, and four brothers Faye, Buster, Lyle and Albert White.
