Maxine Coufal, 89, of St. Paul, formerly of Cotesfield died Tuesday, May 06, 2014 at Brookefield Park in St. Paul.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday at the Elba United Methodist Church in Elba. The Reverends Delano Cunningham and Martha Voigt will officiate. Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Scotia.
Visitation will be Friday, from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice for a memorial to be designated at a later date.
Maxine was the daughter of Clarence and Alice (Bradley) Englebrecht, the second of three daughters. She was born August 13, 1924 in Elba.
Maxine attended school in Elba, graduating with the class of 1942. She graduated from Kearney Teachers College and taught in country schools in Howard County. During the war Maxine worked in Washington, D.C.
She was united in marriage to Joe Coufal on March 25, 1947 at the Elba EUB church. To this union four children were born.
Maxine and Joe lived their entire life in Cotesfield. She helped her husband on the farm.
Maxine began working at the Cotesfield Post Office in 1974 as a clerk and then as Postmaster in 1979. She retired from the post office on October 2, 1992.
They moved to Heritage Living Center in January 2008.
Her husband died on February 14, 2008.
Maxine loved her family and being a part of all of their activities. She enjoyed cooking, baking and all types of flowers. She helped people whenever she could.
Church was important in Maxine's life and she was a member of the Cotesfield United Methodist Church and the women's organizations in the church. She also took part in Bible Study groups.
She is survived by two sons, Dale Coufal of Ravenna and Garland Coufal and his wife, Sherryl of Cotesfield; one daughter, Peggy Jensen and her husband, Jerry of Scotia; a daughter-in-law, Grace Coufal of North Loup; 12 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren, with a baby girl Coufal due in July; one great great granddaughter; one sister, Ruby Clapper and her husband, James of Bowie, Maryland; a brother-in-law, Lee Coufal and his wife JoAnne of Monet, MO; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Maxine is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 61 years, Joe; one son, Russell Coufal; a granddaughter, Jeanette Gebhardt ; and one sister, Viola McMurtrey.
