Matthew "Matty" Jacob Lechman

Matthew “Matty” Jacob Lechman, 46 of Bismarck, North Dakota, formerly of Brighton, Colorado, was taken from his family suddenly on October 20, 2021. He went into cardiopulmonary arrest stemming from asthma, resulting in irreversible brain damage. Matty had a giving heart and will continue to live in the lives of others through organ donation.  A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

Matty was the youngest of his family born on August 25, 1975 in Broomfield, Colorado to Roberta Erker and James Lechman. He graduated from Broomfield High School in 1994.  Matty met Angela Iverson in January of 2007 while snowboarding with mutual friends.  The couple was united in marriage on March 11, 2010 in the Chapel of Flowers in Las Vegas, Nevada.  He was employed with Vail Resorts for 26 years and made so many lifelong friendships.  After moving to Bismarck in the summer of 2021, he joined the team at Scheels Sports.

Matty viewed people as his driving force and could forge connections immediately. He knew how to connect with people by caringly engaging them and knew how to turn energy perpetually positive. His family came first.  The girls and I knew we were loved every day. Matty would do anything to go snowboarding or riding bikes with the family.  The family adventures we created are so amazing and will be forever cherished. One of his many passions was his band night #feedfriday, he would look forward to those evenings he could play his guitar with his neighbors and friends.

Matty had a multitude of interests and hobbies primarily those involving the outdoors. He reached a professional level in snowboarding and carved a snowy mountain with talents of which most could only dream. He enjoyed family bike riding, fishing, playing with music such as guitar and drums, spending time with family, skateboarding, creating music, cuddling with his 3 pet cats, (Bubba, Dakota, and Tatum),  and he loved being active and outside with nature.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Angela of Bismarck, ND; daughters, Paige and Caitlin of Bismarck, ND; father and step-mother, Jim and Kathy Lechman of Castle Rock, CO; mother, Roberta Erker of Santa Rosa, CA;  sister and brother-in-law, Corrie and Mark Gordon of Healsburg, CA; nephew and niece, Jake and Charley of Healdsburg, CA;  father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dick and Sue Iverson of Bismarck, ND; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Shawn and Misty Iverson of Hazen, ND; and nephews, Oakley and Jett of Hazen, ND.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Christopher Lechman; and son, Dylan Asher Lechman.
