Mary Lou Meyer, 76, of Palmer died Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at Lakeview Nursing Home in Grand Island.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Palmer. The Reverend Robert Schilling will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m., Thursday at the church. Interment will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Palmer.

Memorials are suggested to the St. John's Lutheran Church in Palmer.

Greenway Funeral Home in Palmer is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Lou was born February 19, 1934 to Norman and Fern (Johnson) Miller at Palmer, Nebraska.

Mary Lou grew up in Palmer and attended Palmer Public School. She graduated from Palmer High School in 1951.

She was united in marriage to Marlon Meyer on July 8, 1951 after she graduated from high school.

The couple made their home on a farm southwest of Palmer. They spent 46 years together on the same farm that they moved to after they were married.

Mary Lou was a full time wife and mother. Both Marlon and Mary Lou greatly enjoyed babysitting all their grandchildren and happy to be there for the family. She was a devoted grandmother.

The couple was very active in their church, and Mary Lou enjoyed playing the organ for the church and especially enjoyed being the accompanist for their church choir. She also enjoyed playing at the school in Palmer, Matelyn Retirement Community, Heritage Living Center and at the Howard County Medical Center in St. Paul as well as playing at the Coolidge Center in Palmer.

Mary Lou and Marlon served as registrars and team couple for Lutheran Marriage Encounter.

She was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Palmer, and the Ladies Aid and was also a member of the Palmerettes Club in Palmer.

She is survived by five daughters & three sons-in-law, Deb & Rob Harder of Grand Island, Patti & Kent Tibbetts of Palmer, Cindy Meyer of Crete, Carol Buhrman of St. Paul and Greg Buhrman of Grand Island, and Becky & Bryn Mauer of Fremont; eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren; one brother & sister-in-law, Dick & Pat Miller of Oakland, NE; one sister, Barbara Bydalek of Grand Island; one sister-in-law, Marilyn Retzlaff of Palmer.

Mary Lou is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marlon on August 25, 1997; a granddaughter on Jennifer Harder; one brother Bill Retzlaff and a brother-in-law Jack Bydalek.
