Mary L. Chochon

November 16, 1941 — December 4, 2015

Mary L. Chochon, 74, of Windsor, CO, formerly of Palmer died Friday, December 4, 2015 in Loveland, CO.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul.  Father Rayappa Konka will officiate.  Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Palmer.

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. with a rosary at 5:00 p.m. at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the Palmer Endowment Fund.

Greenway Funeral Home in Palmer is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Chochon was born November 16, 1941 in Des Moines, Iowa to Adolf and Emmy Elizabeth (Bern) Petersen.

Mary grew up and attended school in Hartley, Iowa. She graduated from Hartley High School in 1960 and then attended Wayne State College graduating in 1963 with a Bachelor of Arts in Education. She received her Master’s of Science in Education in 1969 from Wayne State College.

On August 11, 1962 she married Richard Chochon in Primghar, Iowa.

She taught for one year at Randolph NE, five years in Osmond NE, and six years in Clay Center NE. She spent her remaining teaching years in

Palmer NE for 30 years where she taught mathematics and computers.

She was Palmer's first computer teacher and a pioneer in developing technologies for small schools.  She was also instrumental in getting

Hamilton Net to come to Palmer.

Mary was involved with many community and academic organizations.

Mary received numerous awards and recognition in her 42 years of education.   Her commitment to her students and teaching was

recognized when she was awarded the Milton W. Beckman Lifetime Achievement Award for her outstanding lifetime work on the improvement

of Mathematics Education in the State of Nebraska.

She retired from Palmer in 2005. She spent her last years in Windsor, CO.

She enjoyed spending time with her grandkids, friends, and family as well as traveling.  Even in her retirement years she tutored students in

math.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Rick and Tracie Chochon of Columbus, NE and Scott and Julie Chochon of Omaha, NE; a daughter and son-in-law, Vandee and Jason Dittmar of Severance, CO. a brother, Kenny Petersen of Des Moines, IA and sister Charlotte Roland
of Windsor, CO.; eight grandchildren and one great grandson, Bryan Chochon of Basalt, CO.,  David and Janae Chochon and son Dominic of O'Neill, NE,  Aaron Chochon of Papillion, NE, Chris Chochon of Lincoln, NE,  Eric Chochon of Lafayette, LA, Aubrey, Adelynn, and Colton Dittmar of Severance, CO.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Richard, and two brothers.
