Marna Lynn Porath, 77, of Dannebrog, died on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at the Grand Island Regional Medical Center in Grand Island.
Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Dannebrog. Pastor Sheri Lodel will be officiating.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 P.M. on Friday, July 26, 2024, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Dannebrog. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date.
Marna was born on December 31, 1946, to Vern and Inez (Loescher) Niemoth. She grew up in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island Senior High School in 1965. She was united in marriage to Ken Porath on March 26, 1983, in Grand Island. The couple lived outside of Phillips for 5 years and then moved to Dannebrog. Together the couple enjoyed going camping and fishing, as well as tending to their garden. Marna had a passion for baking and was well known for making any kind of pie. Her Christmas cookies and candies were a family favorite. Marna and Ken had a catering business for over 15 years. Other hobbies include canning, puzzles, bowling, and ceramics. She was a very accomplished ceramic painter especially when it came to focusing on the eyes. In her earlier years she was a floral designer and was recognized as an award winning FTD florist. Eventually she owned and operated her very own floral shop called Marna's Creations in Dannebrog.
Marna was a volunteer EMT and fire fighter for Dannebrog for around 20 years.
Survivors include her husband, Ken of Dannebrog; daughter, Andrea (Rod) Barton of Hastings, grandchildren, Brittany Campbell of Hastings; Jessalynn (Joe) Bennett of Kearney; great grandchildren, Tayson and Stellan Campbell, Henry and Molly Bennett; sister, Vernelle (Steve) Miles of Grand Island; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jerry and Jeannette Sharp of Valentine; along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Vern and Inez Niemoth; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ruben and Betty Porath.
