Marie Smith, 86, of Dannebrog died Thursday, March 8, 2012 at Wedgewood Care Center in Grand Island.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday at the First Baptist Church Family Center in Dannebrog. The Reverend Barry Arndt will officiate.
A friends and family service will be held Sunday at 7:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church Family Center in Dannebrog.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church in Dannebrog or to the Gideons International.
Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Smith was born March 4, 1926 in Hall County to William and Mildred (Noble) Hahs.
She was raised and attended school in rural Hall County.
Marie was united in marriage to Don Smith on July 24, 1944 in St. Paul. The couple lived all of their married life in Howard County, mostly in Dannebrog.
Don and Marie owned the Chew and Chat Café© in Dannebrog for 21 years in which Marie operated. She also baked and decorated cakes for many occasions.
She entered Wedgewood Care Center in April 2009.
Marie enjoyed her flower beds.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dannebrog in which she was an active member. She also was active in the Dannebrog Booster Club.
Survivors include her husband, Don of Dannebrog; a son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Vicki Smith of Saginaw, MN; two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Tom Roberts of Rochester, MN and Amy and Ken Friesen of Grand Island; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; three step grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Thelma and Robert Morris of Central City and Roylene and Daryl Smith of Grand Island.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter-in-law, Susan Smith and a sister, Anna Louise Smith.
