Marie E. Gdanitz, 89, of Elba died Saturday, April 05, 2008 at Bryan LGH West Hospital in Lincoln.



Memorial services will be held Saturday, April 12, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul. The Reverend Joseph Javorsky and Father Ray Kosmicki will officiate. There will be no visitation. Mrs. Gdanitz was cremated. Private burial of the cremains will be held.



Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.



Mrs. Gdanitz was born August 3, 1918 on the family farm near Nysted. She was the daughter of Lauritz and Flora Nielsen Feddersen. Marie attended grade school at a rural school in the Dannebrog-Nysted area where she received her early education. She later graduated from high school at St. Paul.



Marie was united in marriage to Julius "Bud" Gdanitz on February 14, 1942 at St. Paul. The couple first farmed near St. Paul for several years and later moved to a farm south of Elba. On the farm the couple raised purebred DuRoc hogs and were also involved in breeding and raising water foul, especially geese. Marie and Julius remained living on the farm the rest of their married life. Julius died on August 25, 1983. In 1984, Marie moved into Elba, where she lived the rest of her life. Marie was a long time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elba. Marie's top priority was to raise her children and see that their needs were met first. She was a feisty lady and had a strong will toward life. At one time, Marie loved to paint and sew. She also had a great love of animals. A close companion was her dog "Scooter.



Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Dianne Gano of Fort Collins, Colorado; Judith Ann & Herman Lewerke of Louisville, Colorado; Laurel Jean & Edward Pamplin of Mount Vernon, Texas; One son, Boyd Gdanitz of Elba. Also surviving her are seven grandchildren, Jon & Buck Lewerke, Anissa Grounds, Jeremy & Justin Pamplin, and Heather & Tara Gano; and two great grandchildren, Samuel & Jacob Grounds.



She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two grandchildren; Chad Lewerke & Jason Pamplin; five brothers, Sigurd, Chris, Ernest, Vernon & Howard Feddersen; four sisters, Astrid Christensen, Thyra Toof, Grace Kunze and Florence Christensen.
