Lyle was born May 14th, 1940 to Arved and Ricka (Nielsen) Rasmussen in Dannevirke, Nebraska.
He attended and graduated from Dannebrog High School in 1957. He attended the University of Nebraska at Kearney for one year prior to enlistment in the United States Army. Before entering college, Lyle farmed in the rural Dannebrog area. He served in the United States Army from 1963 and was honorably discharged in 1965. During his time in the service, he was stationed for approximately one year in Germany.
On December 23rd, 1967, he was united in marriage to Linda Swanson. From this union, two children were born; Larry Rasmussen of Lincoln, and Leann (Rasmussen) Tice of O'Neill, NE. Lyle returned to college at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and graduated in 1969, beginning his career as a District Conservationist in Alma, NE.
Lyle worked for the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) for 31 years, taking the family to numerous towns in Nebraska including Alma, Benkelman, Curtis, Ord, and St. Paul. Lyle retired in January of 2000 from the NRCS, and worked briefly for Pheasants Forever before starting as a handi bus driver at the St. Paul Senior Center where he has worked for the past nine years. He was forced to retire in May of 2011 due to his declining health.
Lyle always put his family first and helped friends whenever needed. He enjoyed being outdoors where he could hunt, fish, golf, garden, and camp. One of his loves was to travel which he and his wife did as frequently as possible throughout the United States in their 5th wheel. Lyle also enjoyed woodworking and was an avid reader. He liked to collect toy John Deere tractors, particularly tractors he remembered from his youth. Lyle took great joy from not only spending time with his family, but with his grandchildren. He proved not only was he a great husband and father, but a great "Papa" as well.
Lyle is survived by his wife Linda of St. Paul; a son Larry and grandson Caleb of Lincoln, NE; a daughter and son-in-law, Leann and Troy Tice and granddaughter Kelynn of O'Neill, NE; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Lois and Vernon Kotrc of Arvada, Colorado; and Marlene and Milton Kotrc of Kearney, NE; and a sister-in-law, Ruby Rasmussen of Bellevue, NE; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother Arlin Rasmussen, and a grandson Xavier Logan Tice.
