Lyle E. Gee, 85, of Palmer died Sunday, June 21, 2015 at his home near Palmer.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday at the First Church of Christ in Palmer. The Reverend Martha Voigt will officiate. Cremation will take place after the funeral service and inurnment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Palmer.
Military honors will be provided by Burton Beyer American Legion Post #120 of Palmer.
Visitation will be on Thursday from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Greenway Funeral Home in Palmer.
Memorials are suggested to the First Church of Christ, Palmer Rescue Squad or the family's choice.
Lyle was born August 31, 1929 south of Palmer to Alvah and Etoile (Colborn) Gee.
Lyle was raised near Palmer. He attended Sunday School at the First Church of Christ and grade school District 49 south of Hwy 92. He then attended Palmer High School where he graduated in 1947. He was active in all sports in high school and was the homecoming king.
He then attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln for two years, playing on the basketball team during his freshman year.
Lyle served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953, serving in Korea.
He was united in marriage to Darlene Kroeger on September 22, 1957 in Palmer.
The couple lived near Palmer where Lyle farmed for all of his life.
Lyle enjoyed coyote hunting when he was younger. He was also on the Palmer Baseball Team and a basketball team from Grand Island in the late 1950's.
He was a member of the Burton Beyer American Legion Post #120 of Palmer and the Merrick County Extension Board.
Survivors include his wife, Darlene of Palmer; four sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Becky Gee of Genoa, Daniel and Jennifer Gee of Novi, MI, Allen and Virginia Gee of Cody, WY, and Shaun and Alison Gee of Gillette, WY; one daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Wayne Anderson of Sheridan, WY; a daughter-in-law, Jolene Gee of Lincoln; 23 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Betty and Duane Killion of Kearney and Suzanne Schmaljohn of Maryville, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Terry; a great-granddaughter, Faith Angelica; three brothers, Richard, Wayne and Jay Gee; and two sisters, Gertrude Andrews and Virginia Leth.
