Loris J. (Fechtner) Dankert

Central City (formerly of Palmer)

Loris J. Dankert, 90, of Central City, Nebraska (formerly of Palmer) passed away peacefully on Friday, May 24, 2024, at the Cottonwood Estates Assisted Living Community in Central City.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Palmer, Nebraska.  Pastor John Dolittle will be officiating.  Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Palmer.

Visitation will be from 5-7 P.M. on Friday, May 31, 2024, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Palmer.  Memorials are suggested to St. John’s Lutheran Church for future mission projects.

Loris was born at home on October 12, 1933, east of Palmer, Nebraska to Frank and Minnie (Glause) Fechtner.  She was baptized by Pastor Paul Kenny on March 9, 1947, at the First Church of Christ in Palmer.  She attended elementary school at District 58 Country School and graduated high school from Palmer Public School in 1952.  She was united in marriage to Melvin Dankert on January 10, 1954, by Pastor A.F. Otto at Zion Lutheran Church in Worms.  Witnesses were Elton Dankert and Mrs. Ralph Quandt.  On August 29, 1954, she was also confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church.

Loris and Melvin lived and farmed in the Worms, Central City, and Palmer areas.  They were members of Zion Lutheran Church in Worms until 1964, and then transferred to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Palmer.  When they weren’t farming, the couple enjoyed camping, Sunday drives, and spending time with family and friends.  Their grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of their life. They will forever remember their many trips with Grandma and Grandpa to Pizza Hut and Subway in St. Paul.  On August 22, 2005, Melvin passed away at the age of 75.  Loris continued to live in Palmer until 2022.  She then moved to Cottonwood Assisted Living in Central City where she resided until her passing.  Loris loved visiting and talking on the phone with people.  She enjoyed shopping and going out for Chinese food.  Loris worked various jobs over the years with her longest employment being at Central City Care Center for 20 years in housekeeping.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Dale Dankert of Covington, GA ; daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Casey Earl of Palmer; daughter-in-law, Pam Dankert of Elba; grandchildren, Brian Dankert, Cristy (Leon) Vaccaro, Heidi (Evan) Stelk; Holly (Max) Miller, Rochelle (DeWayne) Johnson, Shaina (Mitch) Corwin, Lucas Leach, and David Bresley; 18 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild; sister-in-law, Jeannie Dankert of Grand Island; numerous nieces and nephews.

Loris was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Melvin Dankert; infant son; son, Greg Dankert; siblings and spouses; daughter-in-law, Sue Dankert.
