Linda Kay (Cernik) Doncheske, 54 of Palmer, passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at Grand Island Park Place Care and Rehabilitation Center, surrounded by her family.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, March 17, 2018 at the United Methodist Church in Palmer. Reverend Michael Anderson will be officiating. Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery. Please show your support by wearing pink in memory of Linda and her battle with cancer.
Visitation will be from 5-7 P.M. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Palmer. Memorials are suggested to the family.
Greenway Funeral Home in Palmer is in charge of arrangements.
Linda was born on November 17, 1963 in Grand Island, Nebraska to Alvin & Carol (Stevens) Cernik. She received her Kindergarten – 2nd Grade education in Phillips. She then went to Palmer where she attended 3rd grade and graduated from Palmer High School in 1982.
She was united in marriage to Leslie Doncheske on June 27, 2009 in Marquette, NE.
She was a supervisor at Skagway in Grand Island for several years where she met her life long friends. She managed the Dollar General in St. Paul for many years. In August of 2011, she started working in the St. Paul Public School kitchen and in 2015, she was promoted to Head Cook. She truly enjoyed being around all of the students everyday. She especially enjoyed seeing her grandchildren. She also looked forward to having her grandkids stay with them every summer for a week so they could show pigs in 4-H. She loved her farm cats and her dog, “Little Bear.” She enjoyed being outdoors, helping her husband on the farm, and family get togethers. Linda and Les enjoyed spending time fishing in South Dakota.
Survivors include her husband, Les of Palmer; mother, Carol Cernik of Palmer; sons, Michael Allen Schwieger & his girlfriend, Stephanie Vance of Dannebrog, Chase Doncheske & Chance Doncheske, both of Palmer; daughters and sons-in-law, Kelly & Jon Mierau of Grand Island, Dana Schwieger of Fullerton, Holly & Bob Sorgenfrei of St. Paul, Lacey Doncheske and her fiancé, Tyler Ditter of St. Edward; 10 grandchildren, Alexis, Lyam, Jacob, Colton, Keghan, Carson, Autumn, Quentin, Jasper, & Kayel; brother and sister-in-law, Richard & Penny Cernik of Palmer; sisters & brothers-in-law, Marilyn & D.D. Dugger of Palmer, Kim & Rusty Rowe of York; nephews & nieces, Bob, Jennifer, Chris, Melissa, Brian, Michelle, Meaghan, Kayla, & Rachael; & great-nephew, Riley.
Linda was preceded in death by her father, Alvin; her grandmother, Barbara Kapustka; grandfather, Joe Cernik; step-grandfather, Bolish Kapustka; grandfather, Floyd Stevens; grandmother, Esther Fox Stevens; grandfather, Joel McMullen; two twin brothers, Kenneth & Keith Cernik; and a sister, Sandra Cernik.
