Lida E. Friedrichsen, 76, of Palmer died Monday evening, April 5, 2010 at Litzenburg Long Term Care Facility in Central City, where she resided. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that Lida had touched in some small way throughout her short, yet memorable life.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, at the First Church of Christ in Palmer. The Reverend Jerry Quandt will officiate. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Palmer. Visitation will be held on Thursday, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Greenway Funeral Home in Palmer.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Lida was born October 11, 1933 in Palmer to the late George and Ella (Freeland) Verplank.
She attended school in Palmer and graduated in 1951 and further attended college at Central City and Kearney, Nebraska. She taught school at District 41 and 45 in Palmer, Nebraska.
On July 1, 1962 she was united in marriage to Donald W. Friedrichsen in Palmer. Lida was a homemaker who also previously worked at the Ordinance Plant in Grand Island; St. Paul Nursing Home and Hospital; Palmer Coolidge Center in Palmer; managed the American Legion in Palmer; Central City Long Term Care and Hospital. Lida was always willing to help a lending hand.
She enjoyed teaching and spent much of her career working with the elderly as a certified medical assistant and social services/activities director.
Lida was a member of the Church of Christ in Palmer, Nebraska.
She taught kids to play ball. She was an avid reader and enjoyed solving puzzles such as crossword puzzles, word find and jigsaw puzzles. She was a gift to life and will be deeply missed.
Lida is survived by seven children and spouses, Kathy & Curtis Woods of Roseburg, Oregon; Dale & Amy Davis of Palmer; Lonnie Friedrichsen & Val Sims of Grand Island; Donnie Friedrichsen of Grand Island; Kurt & Shelly Friedrichsen of Palmer; Mitch and Dawn Friedrichsen of Central City and Lisa & Shawn Brumbaugh of Palmer; 17 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; three sisters, Helen Kolar of Wolbach, Louise Davison of Palmer and Barbara Meyer of Central City and one brother and sister-in-law, Allen and Vida Mae Verplank of Kearney.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Layton Verplank, and one grandchild, Joseph Andrew Davis.
