Leonard Koperski 84, of Grand Island, formerly of Howard County, Nebraska passed away on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at the Good Samaritan Society-Grand Island Village due to cancer.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 7, 2021 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul. Father Rayappa Konka and Deacon Neil Baquet will be presiding. The family requests casual attire for those attending.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday at Jacobsen-Greenway-Dietz Funeral Home in Saint Paul.
A Private family inurnment will be held at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Elba.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family’s choice.
Leonard is enjoying his 85th birthday in heaven, as he was born May 4, 1936 to Frank and Vernie (Lubash) Koperski in Posen, Nebraska. Leonard attended school in Farwell graduating from Farwell High School. Leonard was married to Berniece L. DeMary on September 28, 1956 in St. Libory, Nebraska. They moved to Washougal, Washington where their daughter, Sheila was born. Five years later they moved back to St. Paul where the couple’s other four children were born. They were members of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Elba. Leonard was a member of St’s. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul at the time of his death.
Other than the short time in Washington, Leonard farmed his entire life. He purchased the August Mudloff farm when he was 16 years old. He enjoyed farming and raising cattle, along with his dogs. He also laid carpet for over 40 years for Zlomke Furniture and was part owner of the store. Leonard enjoyed going to auctions and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children and their spouses, Patrick “Pat” & LaDonna Koperski of St. Paul, Mike & Heather Koperski of Farwell, Melissa Koperski of Grand Island, and Karen & Jay Obermiller of St. Paul; grandchildren and their spouses; Daniel & Lesley Koperski of St. Paul, Dustin Koperski of St. Paul, Gale Treat of Wolbach, Raeleigh Koperski of Farwell, Quinton Koperski of Ohio, Ein Obermiller, Samantha Obermiller and Alex Obermiller, all of St. Paul; great-grandchildren, Cydney White, Lane White, and Maddi Koperski; one great-great grandchild, Hunter White; brother and sister-in-law, Franklin & Sharon Koperski of Farwell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Berniece; daughter, Sheila Koperski; and brothers and sisters.
