Leonard D. Coufal, 86, of St. Paul died Friday, December 24, 2010 at the Howard County Medical Center in St. Paul.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul. The Reverend Martha Voigt will officiate. Graveside service will be held at Cotesfield Cemetery with military honors by Rueben Beck American Legion Post #150 of Scotia, Nebraska.

Memorials are suggested to the Howard County Food Pantry.

Leonard was born July 29, 1924 to John & Ida (Larsen) Coufal at Cotesfield, Nebraska.

He was educated in the Howard/Greeley County area.

Leonard farmed with his father and worked for others during his earlier years, he also worked in Iowa and at the Grand Island Airport when it was being built. He was employed at the Cornhusker Ammunition Plant at Grand Island during WWII.

He served in the United States Army in 1945 being inducted from Howard County and served at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and Camp Plauche, Louisiana.

Leonard served on the local school board, the Cotesfield elevator board, the ASC committee, the Cotesfield Church committee and the cemetery board.

He retired from farming and cattle and hog business in 1995. At that time he moved to St. Paul where he remained until his demise.

Leonard leaves to mourn his sisters, Doris Simpson, Detta Wada; one niece, several nephews and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, twin brothers and sisters, Patsy Coufal, Isabelle Weinrich, Evelyn Coufal and Leora Ingle.
