Leo Gillham

Leo Gillham, 84, of St. Paul died Friday, June 29, 2012 at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island, Nebraska with his children by his side.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul. The Reverend Kati Salmons will officiate. Burial will be held in Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul with military rites at graveside by Carl Mogensen American Legion Post #119 of St. Paul. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the St. Paul Fire Department and EMT's.

Leo was born February 5, 1928 in Greeley, Nebraska to Jess & Ruby (Kelly) Gillham.

He received his education in Scotia.

Leo enlisted in the United States Army on January 8, 1951 and served during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on December 10, 1952.

He was united in marriage to Ione Sestak on June 29, 1958 at Comstock, Nebraska.

The couple lived in Bayard after they were married. In 1959 they moved to St. Paul where they lived the rest of their lives.

While in St. Paul he was employed with Spike Smith's Construction, RT Paul Consulting Engineer and HWS Consulting Group. Leo retired in 1991.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #119 of St. Paul.

Leo enjoyed gardening, playing cards, gambling trips and daily visits to Palmer.

He is survived by his children, Judy (Jeff) Jorgensen of Grand Island, Dennis (Cathy) Gillham of York, MaryJane (Mike) Garner of Broken Bow and Don (Dana) Gillham of St. Paul; grandchildren, Justin and Jenny Jorgensen, Jess and Caitlin Gillham, Anne Marie, Tyrel & Yance Garner, Danielle (Pat) Killinger and David Gillham; one brother Fay (Lavonna) Gillham of St. Paul and a very special friend Donna Dobish of St. Paul.

Leo is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ione on March 16, 1991, sisters, Irene Murphy, Loretta Schmidt and his brothers, Raymond and Gerald Gillham.
