LaNelle M. Wegner, 99, of Palmer, died on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at the Howard County Medical Center in St. Paul.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at the United Methodist Church in Palmer. Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Palmer. Pastor Martin Leeper and his wife, Jeanie, along with Pastor Cesar Duran will be offering words of comfort.
Visitation will be from 5-7 P.M. on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at the church. Memorials are suggested to the church or the Palmer Public School Endowment Fund. Greenway-Dietz Funeral Home in Palmer is assisting the family.
LaNelle was born on July 21, 1924, on a farm on the Merrick County strip north of Palmer, Nebraska to Frank and Hildred (Curtis) Burke. She attended Oakdale Rural School for 8 years, Palmer Public School for two years, and Fullerton Public School for two years. She taught school in Merrick County for 2 years and 1 year at Glenwood School in Nance County.
On April 17, 1943, she was married to Dallas “Gus” D. Wegner in Grand Island, Nebraska. Dallas joined the Navy and LaNelle returned back home to live with her parents. After his return they resided on his family farm east of Palmer until 1978 when they moved to Palmer. She worked for Lemmerman Hatchery for 6 years and for State Bank of Palmer for 21 years. She also volunteered for third grade and kindergarten at Palmer School for 2 days a week for 14 years.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Palmer since 1938 and was on the Board of Trustees and served as the Financial Secretary. She was Chairman of the Board of Maplewood Corners and served on the Rose Hill Cemetery Board for many years. LaNelle enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Valley View Golf Club in Central City since 1970. She also enjoyed playing cards. Her family and her church both were very important to her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son and daughters-in-law, David and Lois Wegner of Palmer, Kathy Wegner of Palmer, and Carolyn Wegner of Kearney; 7 grandchildren, Brad Wegner and Shane Wegner of Kearney, Devon (Jessie) Wegner of Lincoln, David (Adrianne) of Alexandria, Virginia, Courtney (Brandon) Finn of Plattsmouth, NE, Ashley (Blaine) Cornelius of Palmer, Neil (Kate) Wegner of Palmer; 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas “Gus” Wegner on October 26, 1997; parents; sons, Dallas Wegner and Doug Wegner; brother and sister-in-law, Bud and Marcella Burke.
