Katheryn “Betty” McClaren (Euwer) died February 14, 2019 at Litzenberg Long Term Care, Central City, NE.
Mrs. McClaren was born October 6, 1932 in Saint Louis County, Missouri to her parents George Anthony and Kathryn Laura Elizabeth Mae (Williams) Euwer. She lost her father at age three to an automobile accident. Betty grew up in Saint Louis County moving between Kirkwood and Webster Groves as her mother purchased old homes, restored them, and then sold them. She was the May Queen of her high school and attended the University of Missouri at Columbia where she was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. After one year of college she married her high school sweetheart, Charles V. McClaren, May 10, 1952 in Webster Groves, MO and moved to Beaver Lodge, Alberta, Canada while Charlie was stationed there in the US Air Force. Betty lived in the St. Louis County area, Columbia, MO, Billings, MT, Rantoul, KS and Palmer, NE and still has dear friends in each location. During her life she worked as a secretary at the University of Missouri, an aircraft FBO (fixed base operation) in Billings, and a POA horse farm in Kansas before moving to Nebraska to be close to her grandchildren. Over her lifetime she volunteered her time to the Girl Scouts, March of Dimes, Franklin County rural water board in Kansas, Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) in Olathe, KS, and the Palmer United Methodist Church.
Betty and Charlie raised three children: Linda Dean, Michael Louis and Katheryn Elizabeth (Kathy) to love animals and nature. Betty had a lifelong love of beautiful things especially music, flowers, cats, dogs, horses, and nature. When she wasn’t following her husband and his dreams you could find her always listening to music, working in the yard or being with the animals like the mares and foals on the horse farm or raising Jack Russell puppies. Betty loved her children and her grandchildren and her animals.
Mrs. McClaren is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Ted Parkhurst of Marion, MI and Kathy and Jay Wolfe of Palmer, NE, and four grandchildren: Molly and Chris Dietrich of Lincoln, NE, Katie and Shayne Larson of Stanton, IA, Emilie Wolfe of Palmer, NE and Michael Wolfe of Palmer, NE. She is also survived by one brother, Tim and Kandis Taylor of Trimble, MO and their daughters, Emily and Laura, and one sister-in-law, Jane McClaren of Lexington, KY. She is preceded in death by her father, George Anthony Euwer, a son, Michael Louis McClaren and her husband, Charles Vance McClaren, and her mother.
