Joseph E. Valasek, 69, of St. Paul died Monday, June 24, 2013 at his home in St. Paul.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul. The Reverend Ray Kosmicki will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday with a wake service at 7:00 p.m. at the church.
A family inurnment will take place at a later date.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Valasek was born September 27, 1943 east of Wolbach to Michael John and Anna (Kowalski) Valasek.
He was baptized in the Catholic Faith and attended parochial school at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greeley. Joe then attended country school north of Palmer.
He was united in marriage to Linda Coplen on April 12, 1969 in O'Connor.
Joe was a ranch hand and farmer in North Platte for many years before he came back to the area and worked for several years at the Cottonwood Ranch north of Palmer. He went to work at Swift & Company where he retired.
He enjoyed family gatherings, fishing, and playing his accordion.
Joe is survived by three children, Patrick James & his wife, Tia Valasek of Grand Island, Tonya & her husband, Justin Brandt of Phillips, and Edmund Eugene Valasek of St. Paul; one granddaughter, Jade Brown; two step grandchildren, Jade Longbine and Jefferey Martin, Jr.; one sister, Irene Slizoski of Iowa; two brothers, Alfred & Betty Valasek of Genoa and Mike & DeLores Valasek of St. Paul; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Leo, Allie, Ed and George Valasek.
