John P. Wortman, 58, of Boelus died Saturday, July 16, 2016 at CHI St. Francis in Grand Island.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul. Reverend Cathryn Love will officiate.
Visitation will be on Thursday, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family’s choice.
Mr. Wortman was born November 6, 1957 in Grand Island to John J. and Luella (Szwanek) Wortman.
He was raised in Wood River and attended Wood River Schools. He received his GED in 1975 from Chadron while in the job corp.
He worked as a mechanic for S & C Motors north of Grand Island and also did farm work for Lavern Scarborough.
John was united in marriage to Jane Hilmer on July 26, 1986 in Boelus.
They lived north of Grand Island for 5 years, moving to Boelus in 1989. John worked constructing Conrad Grain Bins, becoming the owner of the construction business in 2006.
John was a jack of all trades being able to fix anything. He loved to work on electronics. He liked to participate in “Storage Wars”. He loved his dogs and was proud of his yard.
Survivors include his wife, Jane of Boelus; three daughters, Angela Idlewine and her husband Nathan of Gilbert, AZ, Sara Wortman and Cody Kanter of Palmer, and Melinda Wortman of St. Paul; eight grandchildren; one brother, Ron Wortman of Wood River; three sisters, Dorothy Wortman of Wood River, Patricia Adam and her husband Dan of Hildreth, and Kathleen Wortman and Louie Moreno of Grand Island; and his mother-in-law, Edna Hilmer of St. Paul.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law, Edward Hilmer.
