Later he worked at the Dannebrog Elevator and then for Petersen Lumber in Dannebrog for six years. He also worked at the St. Paul Nursing Home doing maintenance.
John and Isabella moved to Sacramento, California and John worked for the Hyster Forklift Company. They returned to Nebraska in 2002 and retired in St. Paul at 1003 Sheridan Street. He did carpentry and mechanic jobs during retirement.
