Jim E. Sidel, 66, of St. Paul died Wednesday, October 26, 2016 in Adams, NE.
Services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Monday at the United Methodist Church in St. Paul. Reverend Momo Larmena, Jr. will officiate. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul. Military honors will be presented by the Carl Mogensen American Legion Post #119 of St. Paul.
Visitation will be on Sunday, from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the church.
Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.
In celebration of Jim’s life, the family requests that you wear your favorite camo, red, white and blue clothing or baseball attire to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family’s choice, to be donated to Jim’s favorite American Legion projects.
Jim was born November 13, 1949 to Ernest and Alice Darlene (Schenck) Sidel.
He attended St. Paul schools where he graduated in 1967.
Jim entered the United States Air Force on March 21, 1968. He served until June 17, 1971 when he received his honorable medical discharge.
Jim was united in marriage to Dixie Kaelin on November 13, 1981 in Grand Island.
He returned to begin work at Howard County Implement where he was employed until 1992 when he began working at St. Paul Equipment. He retired in 2015.
Jim was very active in the community, volunteering time with the St. Paul Booster Club since it’s formation, coached many levels of baseball including little league, pony league, midget and junior baseball. Jim announced American Legion Baseball for many years.
He served as a teammate.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in St. Paul and a past leader for the church youth group. He served as a Howard county commissioner from 2009-2012.
Jim was also very active in the American Legion. He was a 32-year member of the Carl Mogensen American Legion Post #119 of St. Paul. He was a past commander of the Legion in St. Paul from 1996-1997, served as a chairman of the state athletic committee, state commander of the American Legion from 2012-2013. He played bingo with the veterans at the Veterans Hospital and Home. He was currently an Alternate National Executive Committeman.
Jim enjoyed playing Santa Claus at Christmas time, riding his horse, hunting, fishing, playing cards and watching all sports.
One of his favorite things to do was to attend his grandchildren’s sporting events.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Jason and Kelli Sidel of Draper, UT and Travis and Misty Sidel of Papillion; two daughters and sons-in-law, Staci and Jess Rother of St. Paul and Amy and Perry Pelc of Adams; twelve grandchildren, Tyler, Tasha, & Tori Bredvick, Eli & Logan Pelc, Devyn, Daltyn & Damyn Rother, Alexa & Trey Sidel, Emma & Dane Sidel; one great-granddaughter, Sophie Kennedy; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Bev and Don Sack of Dannebrog and Barb and Richard Howe of Superior.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dixie on August 10, 2014; twin infant grandchildren, Hailey Jo Sack and Russell Sack Jr.; and a grandson, Dawsyn Rother.
