Jerald Christensen, 78, of Grand Island, formerly of St. Paul died Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Grand Island, Nebraska.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul. The Reverend Randy Dilts will officiate. Interment will be held in Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul with military honors at graveside presented by Carl Mogensen American Legion Post #119 of St. Paul.
Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Christensen was born September 29, 1935 at Dannevirke, Nebraska to Andrew and Blanche (Klein) Christensen.
He moved to a farm west of St. Paul in 1944, where he attended country school #69 and #55. He attended St. Paul school one year.
Jerald was united in marriage to Myrna Peterson on May 25, 1958 in St. Paul, Nebraska. The couple divorced in 1996.
He entered the United States Army on June 11, 1958. He served his military service in Germany. He was honorably discharged June 2, 1960.
After his discharge, Jerald worked for various companies in Nebraska. He later worked for various Rock Company in California and Mo Valley in Nebraska building the interstate.
Jerald was a member of the American Vets Post 15 and the Platt-Deuttsche in Grand Island.
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Tresa & Mark Arthur of Grand Island and Lisa & Mitch Kearns of Rapid City, SD; nine grandchildren; one brother, Bobby Christensen of St. Paul; a sister-in-law, Darlene Christensen of Grand Island and a cousin Larry Klein of Hastings.
Jerald is preceded in death by his parents, a son Jerald Christensen, Jr., a grandson Jonne Baldwin, two brothers, Marshall and Gordon Christensen, and a sister-in-law, Thelma Christensen.
