James A “Jim” Thede, 80 of Fort Collins, CO, formerly of Palmer, died on Friday, March 23, at the Rehab and Nursing Center in Fort Collins. Interment will be in Fort Collins.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 26, 2018 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Palmer. Reverend Thomas Clark will officiate. Inurnment has taken place in Resthaven Cemetery in Fort Collins, CO. A. time to greet the family will be held on Saturday, May 26 from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. at the church.
Greenway Funeral Home in Palmer is assisting the family.
Jim was born on May 22, 1937 in Palmer to August and Norma (Helzer) Thede. He attended elementary school at Zion Lutheran Worms, high school in Palmer and graduated from Hastings College in 1960. He then was a teacher and coach in the Cozad Public Schools for several years.
He was united in marriage to Jane Eversoll in Grand Island on August 17,1967. They made their home in Palmer where he was employed at Pinnacle Bank. Two sons were born before the family moved to Colorado in 1980 where Jim was also involved in banking. He later moved back to Nebraska, living in Grand Island, Omaha and Clarks.
On August 16, 2001, Jim and Peg Caley of Clarks were married at Steam Boat Springs, CO. They made their permanent home in Fort Collins in 2003.
Jim’s greatest interest was sports, playing on all teams in high school, football at Hastings College as well as summer league baseball teams. He also officiated many high school ball games. He was a lifelong fan of Husker football and the Chicago Cubs.
Survivors include his wife, Peg Caley Thede; sons Jay (Monica) of Omaha and Tye (Laura) of Phoenix AZ; stepchildren, Chris Caley of Silver Creek and Cathy Sweedenburg of York; grandchildren, Grace, Quentin and Sam Thede; seven step-grandchildren; and a sister, Cheryl (Dave) Tickner of Palmer.
He was proceeded in death by his parents.
