James "Jim" Edward Nicholas

James E. “Jim” Nicholas, 64, of Palmer died unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Palmer.  Reverend Mike Anderson will officiate.  Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Palmer.

Visitation will be on Friday, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the family’s choice to be designated at a later date.

Greenway Funeral Home in Palmer is assisting the family.

Jim was born February 8, 1954 in Grand Island to Victor and Jocelyn (Hiett) Nicholas.

He was raised near Palmer and attended Palmer Schools where he graduated in 1972.  He then attended University of Nebraska in Lincoln.  Jim then returned to Palmer where he farmed with his father and brother, Bob.

He was united in marriage to Shelley Simonson on February 1, 1975 in Worms, NE.  To this union two children, Zach and Lindsay were born.

Jim then was employed by Dinsdale Brothers for 25 years.

Jim was married to Lanette Studley.

He moved to Iowa with his life companion, Carol Rasmussen, where he was employed by VanDiest as a location manager for Pioneer Iowa.  Jim loved his job and working with his customers.

His granddaughters were everything to him.  He loved Nebraska football and athletics and golfing.

He was a member of the Palmer United Methodist Church and the Son of the American Legion in Palmer.

Survivors include his life companion, Carol Rasmussen of Rockwell City, IA; son, Zach Nicholas of Palmer; a daughter, Lindsay Nicholas of Kansas City, KS; two granddaughters, Everly and Aubryn; his mother, Jocelyn Gilmont of Palmer; two brothers, Greg and Bob Nicholas of Palmer; two sisters, Vicki and Ron Simonson of Palmer and Mary Nicholas and Leland Studley of Grand Island.

He is preceded in death by his father, Victor Nicholas; wife, Lanette Nicholas and a sister-in-law, Margaret Nicholas.
