James C. Moores

October 27, 1941 — March 22, 2017

James C. Moores, 75, of Scotia died Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at CHI Health St. Francis in Grand Island.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul.  Reverend Toni Nolze will officiate.  Inurnment will be in Greeley Cemetery in Greeley.

There will not be any visitation.

Memorials are suggested to the family’s choice.

Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.

Jim was born October 27, 1941 in Greeley to Clarence and Dorothy (Moore) Moores.

He was raised and attended school in Greeley until age 13 when he moved to California.  He began working on a farm in California before being employed by Diamond Almond growers.  He worked there for 35 years until his retirement at age 55.

He moved to Scotia in 1996 and began working at Bonsall Feed Lot in Burwell.

He was united in marriage to Linda (Coplen) Valasek on October 22, 2000 in Taylor.  The couple lived in Scotia and Jim worked at Trotter’s in Elba until his retirement in 2007.

Jim enjoyed watching Nascar races and Husker football, working on Ford Tractors and being outdoors.

Survivors include his wife, Linda of Scotia; three grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty & Lonnie Wood of Ericson and Charlotte and Clyde Kraft of Grand Island; daughter-in-law, Donna Moores of Loup City; nephew, Brad Thompson and his wife, Kim of Orange City, IA; niece, Julia Thompson and her fiancé, Dale Shoemaker of Kearney; two step-sons, Pat Valasek and his wife Tia of Aurora and Eddie Valasek of Phillips; step-daughter, Tonya Valasek and Justin Brandt of Phillips; four step-grandchildren; two step-great grandchildren; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Kathy and Mike Conway of Maryland, Brenda Coplen of Palmer, Donna Coplen of North Platte, Connie Lopez of Schuyler, Teresa Coplen and Russ Wysocki of St. Paul, Debbie and LeRoy Keeler of Aurora, and Ray Coplen of Farwell.

He is preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Glenda; son, Jimmy; and a great-granddaughter, Amelia Elizabeth Kolar.
