Jackie "Jack" P. Ambroz, 69, of Grand Island, Nebraska died Friday, January 25, 2013 at Wedgewood Care Center in Grand Island, Nebraska.
Jack's wishes were to be cremated.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday at Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul. The Chaplain Mark Hartley will officiate.
Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Jack was born August 28, 1943 to Paul and Dorothy (Starkey) Ambroz in St. Paul, Nebraska.
Jack grew up in St. Paul and graduated from St. Paul High School in 1961.
He was united in marriage to Sharon Baliman on August 11, 1966.
Jack worked for his father at Ambroz Service Station in St. Paul. In 1971, the family moved to Lake Tahoe, NV when Jack worked for one of the local casinos.
In 1974, Jack and his family moved back to Nebraska and lived in Grand Island. Jack owned and operated Ambroz Used Furniture Store with his father until a fire destroyed the store in 2002.
Jack loved to spend time with his friends having coffee. He also liked to go gambling on the horses.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a 32nd Degree Shriner. He was also a charter member of the St. Paul Jaycees. Jack was a past member of the First Presbyterian Church in St. Paul.
Survivors of the immediate family include a sister and her husband Judy & Dave Varley of Central City and a brother Jerry of Grand Island; three nephews and their wives, Travis & Kim O'Gorman of Alliance, Trevor & Samantha Varley of Sterling, CO and Trenton & Renea Varley of Central City; two great nieces and five great nephews.
Jack is preceded in death by his parents, a nephew Tristan Varley, his grandparents, William & Helen Starkey and Anton & Ann Ambroz and his ex-wife Sharon.
