Hazel Paul was born January 30, 1912 in Fullerton, Nebraska to Emery and Mary (McAfee) Craig.

Her family moved to a farm north of St. Paul where she and her brother, Harold, attended country school through tenth grade. Hazel sometimes rode to school on a horse. In order to attend high school in town, she and Harold boarded together in St. Paul during the week, and Harold drove them to and from home on weekends. They both graduated from St. Paul High School in 1930. After high school, Hazel taught in School District 21 for five years while also attending Kearney State College in the summers.

She was united in marriage to Robert Paul on January 4, 1936 in Omaha, Nebraska. They spent their early married years living in various towns in Nebraska.

During WWII, they resided in Edmonton, Canada while Robert (Bob) was assigned to work on the Alaskan Highway.

When Hazel and Bob returned to St. Paul in 1950, they had three daughters, ages 5, 3, and 3 months. They lived on Elm Street until 1963 when they moved to the "Klippel House" on Sheridan. Hazel helped her husband with his home-based R.T. Paul Consulting Engineer firm and enjoyed accompanying him to job sites and meetings whenever possible.

Hazel's daughters remember her as a parent who guided them to take piano lessons, learn to sew and swim, read for pleasure and go to college.

Hazel was a young widow when Bob died in 1977, but she made many new friends, attended St. Paul school events especially to watch Chris and Denise Craig, learned to swim and bowl, and traveled widely throughout the United States, Canada and Europe.

She moved to Matelyn in 2003 and to the swing bed unit at Howard County Medical Center in 2007.

Through her 95th year, she visited her daughters and their families in Seattle and Dallas where she attended her granddaughters' special events and enjoyed holidays and family gatherings. Her family especially remembers many Fourth of July parties and Christmas' in Nebraska, Texas and Washington. Hazel celebrated her 100th birthday on January 30, 2012.

She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Jane & James Kinyoun of Seattle, WA, Pat & Chris Kelly of Dallas, TX and Linda & Pete Thompson of McCall, ID; granddaughters and their spouses, Cathy & Zachary Webb, Julie & John Shamon, and Colleen Kelly; great grandchildren, Laura, Sarah and Seth Webb and Kailin Shamon; a niece and her husband, Carol & Al Turek and family; and a nephew and his wife, Gary & Charlene Craig and family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bob, and her brother Harold.
