Hazel L. Chambers, 96, of St. Paul, died Friday, March 09, 2012 in Arvada, CO.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul. Ellen Campbell will officiate. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
Mrs. Chambers was born March 28, 1915 in Dannevirke, NE to Axel and Volborg (Leth) Miller.
Hazel was raised in Dannevirke.
She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Dannevirke.
She attended school in Dannevirke. After her schooling, she did domestic work and would help take care of children in St. Paul. She then moved to the Lewellen and Ogallala area where she met her future husband.
Hazel was united in marriage to William Chambers on October 4, 1942 at her parent's home in St. Paul.
The couple lived in the Cotesfield area from 1943 until moving to St. Paul in 1956. Hazel worked as a waitress at the Whale Café© and then at Nesiba's Café©. Hazel also worked at the Gambles Store and at the Howard County Hospital in housekeeping and as a cook. She retired in 1985.
Her husband, William died on December 16, 1986. Hazel continued to live in St. Paul until September 2008 when she moved to live with her daughter, Patricia in Colorado. In September 2009 she moved to a nursing home.
Hazel enjoyed gardening, roses, needlework, baking and taking care of her home. She loved being with family and friends.
She was a member of the Eagle's Women Auxilary of Grand Island.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Heese of Thornton, CO; a stepson, William "Skip" Chambers and his wife Phyllis of Rockford, IL; seven grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William; a son, Gary Chambers; two infant brothers; four brothers, Nels (Herman), Christian, Chester and Miner; and five sisters, Ida, Jenny, Edna, Dora and Hilda.
