Harold “Obie” E. Obermiller 84, passed away on Friday, August 6, 2021, at Brookefield Park in St. Paul.
Funeral Services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in St. Paul. Reverend Steven Neal will be officiating. Burial will follow at the Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm–7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 9, 2021 at Jacobsen-Greenway-Dietz Funeral Home in St. Paul. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
Obie was born to Emil & Anna (Hagman) Obermiller at Dannebrog on September 30, 1936. He grew up on the farm with 6 brothers and 3 sisters. He graduated from Dannebrog High School in 1955. He married Betty Bottom, to this union 3 children Jeff, Mike, and Cynthia were born, they later divorced. Obie married Bonnie Gillette in 1971 and they had one son, Jay. They ran the Bartle’s Store of clothing and groceries in St. Paul before becoming a Farmers Union Insurance Agent, opening his own business in 1983. Bonnie passed away in 1994. In 1999, he married Shirley Arnold, she passed away in 2002. Obie met a great friend and companion, Donna Howard of Michigan. For 17 years they have enjoyed taking trips and spending time together.
Obie was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was a past member of Ducks Unlimited and a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. He enjoyed traveling and spending the winters in Florida with Donna.
Those left to cherish his memory include his son and daughter-in-law, Jay & Karen Obermiller of St. Paul, Jeff Obermiller of Colorado, and Mike Obermiller of Oklahoma; daughters, Cynthia Miller of New Mexico and Cathie Robbins of Oregon; step-daughter and step-son-in-law, Kristy & Curtis Peteet of Crete, Nebraska; brother and sister-in-law, Larry & Arlene Obermiller of Grand Island; sisters & brother-in-law, Connie & Daryl Anderson of Grand Island and Shirley Stutzman of Cairo; thirteen grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
Obie was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Bonnie and Shirley; brothers, Emil, Delvin, Gailord, Don, Jim, and Paul Obermiller; and sister, Darlene Ellenstine.
