Harold W. Morris

Harold W. Morris, 95, of Palmer died Sunday, December 25, 2011 at the Howard County Medical Center in St. Paul.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Palmer. The Reverend Martin Leeper will officiate. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Palmer.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Greenway Funeral Home in Palmer.

Mr. Morris was born April 5, 1916 west of Belgrade in Nance County to Luther and Lula (Phillips) Morris.

He attended school in Nance County at Good Neighbor District 13.

He was united in marriage to Dorothy Shirey on March 11, 1937 in Phillipsburg, KS.
Harold worked at the Grand Island Independent from 1938 until 1943 delivering newspapers on his motorcycle. He then drove for Nelson & Peterson and then Peterson & Peterson Trucking in Grand Island. The couple moved to Denver and Harold drove for PIE and then Denver Chicago Trucking. They moved to California where Harold drove for Timex, Denver Chicago Trucking from 1959 until 1981.

He retired in 1981 and the couple moved to Palmer.

His wife Dorothy died on August 15, 2002.

He enjoyed fishing and hunting. While working at the Grand Island Independent he belonged to the White Spot Motorcycle Club.

He was raised in the Protestant Faith.

Harold was a member of the Eagle's Club of Grand Island.

Survivors include a daughter, Vivian Rice of Palmer; a son, Leland Morris of Lancaster, CA; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law Dorothy Morris of Anaheim, CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy; a son, Donald; a granddaughter; a great-grandson; a daughter-in-law, Sue Morris; six brothers and five sisters-in-law; Ray and Lucille Lamar, Roland and Nellie Morris, Vernon and Ramona Morris, Earl and Hazel Morris, Robert and Elizabeth Morris and Lee Morris and three sisters and a brother-in-law, Bessie Morris, May and William Schomburg and Grace Collins.
