Greg D. Christensen, 64, of St. Paul died Thursday, November 27, 2014 at his home in St. Paul.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul. The Reverend Ray Kosmicki will officiate. Inurnment will be in Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul.
Military honors will be presented by Carl Mogensen American Legion Post #119 of St. Paul.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 -7:00 p.m., Tuesday with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Greg was born August 20, 1950 to Marshall and Darlene Christensen (Wells) in Omaha.
He grew up in Grand Island and attended Central Catholic High School. He finished high school in DaNang Vietnam while he was serving in the Army.
He was united in marriage to Louise Rice in Fullerton on February 21, 1976. To this union they were blessed with one son, Zach. Greg was incredibly proud of his son.
He worked for Saum Construction doing work in Nebraska until 1980 when he was forced to quit due to an accident. He worked for Grand Island Express until he retired due to health reasons.
Greg was a good honest man who would do anything for anyone. He loved his family, a cold beer, a good story, the sunshine and a warm breeze. Greg's other loves were his dog, his friends and God.
Greg loved his airboat the best of all. He always said there was never a bad day on the river. He enjoyed cruising on the Loup River, counting Eagles and visiting with our so very special river friends. To all of them, Louise would like to say Thank You for the memories.
He was a past member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grand Island and a current member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul. Greg also belonged to the VFW in Grand Island.
He is survived by his wife, Louise of St. Paul; his son Zach and his fiancé© Enma Hernandez of Grand Island; a grandson, Alistair who was the light of his life; step grandchildren, Ricky & Emily; his mother Darlene Christensen of Grand Island; sisters & brothers-in-law, Patti Perrie of Holstein, NE, Pam Christensen & friend Donnie Beed of Grand Island, Cindy & Allen Payne of Grand Island, Sandi & Butch Meineke of Cody, WY, and Debbie Christensen of Grand Island; his best friends and brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, Jim & Diane Rice of St. Paul, Theresa & Larry Naeve of Aurora, NE, John & Sheri Rice of Grand Island, Tom & Chris Rice and Annette & Ray Howard of Fullerton and Ron & Maria Rice of Grand Island; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; and his beloved dog, Dude.
He is preceded in death by his father, Marshall; a brother, Daniel "Butch" Christensen and a nephew Wayne Cornell who was killed in Iraq.
