Grace Kyhn, 90, of Boelus died Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Dannebrog. The Reverend Sheri Lodel will officiate. Interment will be in Oakridge Cemetery in Dannebrog.
Visitation will be on Friday, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Memorials are suggested to the School for the Visually Handicapped or the Dannebrog-Boelus EMT's.
Mrs. Kyhn was born July 12, 1923 on a farm south of Dannebrog to Thomas and Nellie (Wilson) Reimers.
She was raised on the farm and attended rural school south of Dannebrog, graduating from the 8th grade. After her schooling she worked at home helping her family on the farm and others with their work and helping with their children. For a short time, she lived near Sutherland working for a ranch family.
She was united in marriage to Arnold Kyhn on May 9, 1945 in St. Paul and they had four children.
When Arnold entered the military, they lived for a short time in Texas.
On March 1, 1947 they moved to a farm north of Boelus where they lived for 9 years. In the fall of 1955 they moved to Otoe County where they farmed and their two oldest children could attend a school in Nebraska City for the visually handicapped.
They returned to Howard County in 1969 and lived on a farm south of Boelus where they have resided since.
Grace enjoyed painting landscapes and wildlife, sewing, gardening and raising flowers.
She received her GED in 1974 and took several classes at Central Community College. She loved to write and Grace became a published author at the age of 74.
She was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Dannebrog, the Schipman Mogensen Legion Auxiliary in Boelus, a church quilting group, a local card club and was an EMT for the Dannebrog-Boelus EMT's and was in the first class given for their EMT training. While Arnold and Grace lived in Otoe County she taught Sunday School.
Survivors include her husband, Arnold of Boelus; a son and daughter-in-law, Eugene and Char Kyhn of Boelus; a daughter and son-in-law, Margery and James Lauer of Kearney; five grandchildren, Aaron and his wife Joy Kyhn of Ravenna, Andrea and her husband Tyler Brown, Chris Kyhn, Phillip and his wife Misty Lauer and Kyla Lauer, all of Lincoln; five great grandchildren, Arnold and Orin Kyhn, Adrian and Rylan Lauer and Elise Grace Brown; a brother and sister-in-law, Alvin and Rosetta Reimers of Grand Island; and a sister, Jessie Kiser of Dannebrog.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Laverne Kyhn; a daughter, Genevieve Kyhn; two sisters, Edna Lautenschlager and Dora Fries and a brother, Thomas Reimers.
