Gladys M. Nichols, 93, of St. Paul died Monday, July 29, 2013 at Brookefield Park in St. Paul.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday at the Bohemian Cemetery in Wilber, NE. The Reverend Lila Bottolfsen will officiate.
There will not be any visitation, Mrs. Nichols was cremated.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Nichols was born July 9, 1920 in Shickley, NE to Sam and Alma (Wertz) Schrock. Gladys was one of three children in the family.
She was united in marriage to Lumir J. Havel on May 27, 1941 in Kimball, NE. To this union four children were born. Her husband, Lumir died on May 28, 1960.
Gladys worked hard at various jobs throughout her life.
She cleaned houses, served as a waitress at Mumby's Café© and the Tower Café© in Fairmont and managed the Fairmont American Legion Club and worked as a waitress at the Hilltop Café© in Geneva.
On November 22, 1972, Gladys was married to Donald E. Nichols in Geneva. The couple lived in St. Paul for their married life. Her husband Don died on April 6, 2013.
Gladys was a lifetime member of 61 years of the American Legion Auxiliary #21 in Fairmont. She was raised in the First Congregation Faith in Exeter.
Survivors include a son, Richard Havel of Grand Island; two daughters and son-in-law, Karen and Dick Jantzi of Fairmont and Kay and Tom Hassler of Columbus; a stepson, Frank Nichols of Utica; three grandchildren; two step grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Lumir Havel and Don Nichols; and infant daughter, Joanne Havel; a grandson, Shane Jantzi; and sisters, Bernice Burmood and Doris Roberts.
