Geraldine Johnson, 83, of Grand Island died Saturday, February 01, 2014 at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Geraldine's wishes were to be cremated.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Dannebrog. The Reverend Sheri Lodel will officiate. Inurnment will be held later.
A time to greet the family and sign the book will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., Friday at the church.
Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mrs. Johnson was born December 1, 1930 in Belgrade, Nebraska to Charles and Emma (Hellbusch) Moyer.
She grew up in the Belgrade area and attended her elementary school years there. The family moved to Grand Island. Geraldine graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1949.
After high school, she worked for a printing company in Grand Island.
Geraldine was united in marriage to Russel Johnson on April 22, 1951 in Grand Island, Nebraska.
She worked as a waitress at the Saddle Club and at the Grand Island Ordinance Plant.
The couple lived on a farm near Boelus and then moved to a farm near Dannebrog. Russel farmed and Geraldine worked as a farmer's wife and also raising their children.
Russel passed away on September 13, 1996. Geraldine continued to live on the farm. She worked at the Golden Nugget in Boelus.
When she had a stroke, Geraldine moved into assisted living in Grand Island.
She was a member of the Our Saviour's Lutheran Church at Dannebrog.
Geraldine had a passion for baking cinnamon rolls and angel food cakes, and cooking. She was a hardworking woman. She and Russel enjoyed dancing to polka music. A bulldog named "Tubby" was her special love. She always enjoyed her family and her grandchildren. Geraldine also enjoyed watching basketball with the Laker's being her favorite team.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Brant & Kim Johnson of Boelus; daughters and sons-in-law, Glenda Smith of Omaha, Shelley Johnson and her husband Nick Tabet of Eugene, OR, Lorie & Galen Witt of Lincoln and Karla Johnson-Kooi and her husband Keith of Sioux Center, IA; 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; two sisters & brother-in-law, Irene Kopystynsky of Grand Island and Artherine & Phil Wagner of Council Bluffs, IA; a very special friend Alan Nielsen of Boelus and her beloved bulldog, "Tubby".
Geraldine is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Russel, sisters and brothers-in-law, Ella Mae & Al Schwieger, Dorothy Walgreen and Walter Kopystynsky, and an infant sister, Kathleen Moyer.
