Gerald Jensen, 83, of North Loup died Monday, September 10, 2013 at the Veterans Medical Center in Omaha.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday at United Methodist Church in North Loup. The Reverend Steve Marsh will officiate. Inurnment will be held at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell at a later date.
Gerald's wishes were to be cremated.
Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church in North Loup, North Loup First Responders or to the Scotia Rescue Unit.
Gerald was born August 14, 1930 to George & Mary Charlotte (Holmes) Jensen in Valley County near Arcadia, Nebraska.
In his early years he grew up in Arcadia and then moved to Olean. He worked for his family and other people on the farm in Valley County.
He entered the United States Army on August 28, 1952 at Omaha, Nebraska. He served during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on August 12, 1954 at Camp Carson, Colorado and continued his service in the Army Reserves.
After serving active duty in the military, he returned home near Arcadia. He was united in marriage to Darlene Johnson on April 12, 1953.
He began working at Trotters. He then worked on the farm and raised hogs. During that time he worked for a beekeeper at Arcadia from 1963-1980.
Gerald retired in the mid 1990's and continued to live on the farm.
He was a member of the Ralph R. Rich American Legion Post #285 of North Loup.
Gerald enjoyed his family. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren and all the time he spent with them including the times he went to their school activities and programs, sports events, and driving them to their activities and taking them on trips.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene of North Loup; one son, Alvin Jensen of North Loup; one daughter, Crystal Wright of Scotia; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren; and one aunt, Goldie Paider of Arcadia.
Gerald is preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Alvin, Donald, Cyril and Samuel, and son-in-law, Harry Wright.
