Gailord J. Obermiller, 84, of St. Paul died Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at the Howard County Community Hospital in St. Paul.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Dannebrog. The Reverend Robert Carlson, Jr. will officiate. Interment will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the Grand Island Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, from 5 - 8 p.m., at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Dannebrog; the St. Paul EMT's or the Dannebrog EMT's.

Mr. Obermiller was born November 9, 1923 on a farm near Dannebrog to Emil and Anna (Hagman) Obermiller. Gailord attended rural school between Dannebrog and Boelus. After his schooling, Gailord first worked for the Thompson Company and then at the Sugar Beet Factory in Grand Island.

He was united in marriage to Leona Harder on November 10, 1944 in Grand Island. The couple farmed in the Cairo and Dannebrog areas. They farmed until their retirement in 1972 due to poor health.

After retirement, the couple began fishing and camping. These were activities that they really enjoyed. They especially liked to go White Swan in South Dakota, Glen Elder, KS and Merritt Reservoir by Valentine. They also traveled to Texas where they spent time fishing.

His wife, Leona died on October 12, 1991.

Gailord was united in marriage to Vange Markvicka on May 14, 1993 in St. Paul. The couple lived for a year on the farm near Dannebrog before moving into St. Paul where they have lived since.

Gailord liked to play cards, watch westerns and especially enjoyed seeing and having coffee with his friends.

He was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Dannebrog and the Platt Duetsche of Grand Island.

Survivors include his wife, Vange of St. Paul; two daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Brian Moses of Wichita, KS and Marti and Fred Lueking of Grand Island; five stepchildren, Mike Markvicka and his wife Diana of St. Paul, Tim Markvicka of St. Paul, Diane Bonczynski and Dick Reed of St. Paul, Julie Rasmussen of St. Paul, and Mark Markvicka of Reno, NV; five grandchildren, Barbara Unger of Casper, WY, Marie McDonald of Ellis, KS, Amy Moses of Hays, KS, Leslie Newell of Hays, KS and Francene Patrick of Grand Island; twelve great-grandchildren; twelve step-grandchildren; fifteen step great-grandchildren; six brothers and five sisters-in-law, Don and Doris Obermiller and Larry and Arlene Obermiller of Dannebrog, Paul and Betty Lou Obermiller of Grand Island, Harold Obermiller of St. Paul, Jim and Beth Obermiller of Grand Island and Emil and Vicki Obermiller of Ravenna; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Darlene Eilenstine of Wood River, Shirley and Larry Stutzman of Cairo and Connie and Darrel Andersen of Grand Island; and a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Obermiller of Grand Island.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Leona; an infant son, Rickie Joe; two brothers, Virgil and Delvin Obermiller.
