Francis Justesen, 93, of Cushing died Saturday, July 21, 2012 at the Hamilton Manor in Aurora, Nebraska, with his family by his side.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in St. Paul. The Reverend Carolyn Hellerich will officiate. Interment will be held in Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m., Monday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Francis was born May 7, 1919 at Cushing, Nebraska to Just & Edith (Fithian) Justesen.
He grew up at Cushing and attended school at Cushing.
Following his schooling Francis and Kenneth Smith traveled to Iowa to pick corn by hand. For a short time before moving to the family farm north of St. Paul, Francis worked at Western Land Roller Company of Hastings.
Francis was united in marriage to Virginia Johanson on March 5, 1941 at Grand Island, Nebraska. The couple was married for 70 years. To this union four children were born, Diann Tallon, Joan Oeltjen, Gary Justesen and Kathy Herbig.
Francis was an excellent steward of the land and an avid livestock producer. He continued to till the soil and raise livestock for 65 years. He enjoyed going to as many livestock sales as possible.
Francis and Virginia spent many hours driving through the country looking at crops and livestock. Francis enjoyed sitting outside on his bench watching the sun go down with his dog "Goldie".
He especially enjoyed the family gatherings.
He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in St. Paul.
Francis is survived by his children, Diann & Terry Tallon of Malcolm, NE, Joan & John Oeltjen of Palmer, NE, Gary & Kay Justesen on Lake Preston, SD and Kathy & John Herbig of Elba, NE; five grandsons and their spouses, David & Kristie Tallon, Lynn & Nicki Justesen, Jeff & Steph Justesen, Justin & Louise Herbig and David Herbig; seven granddaughters and spouses, Karen Jolliffe, Sheri & Galen Glause, Angie Pacheco, Kelly & David Anderson, Michelle Oeltjen, Kristi & John Fignar and Dawnielle & Jeremy Strong; thirteen great grandsons, eight great granddaughters and four great great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild on the way; one sister Hazel Sintek of Riverside, CA, and a special friend, Bob Glesinger of Spalding.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Virginia on December 2, 2011 and a sister Fern.
