Fern E. Beed, 96, of Palmer died Thursday, April 26, 2012 at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday at United Methodist Church in Palmer. The Reverend Martin Leeper will officiate. Burial will be held in Rose Hill Cemetery in Palmer. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m., Monday at the church.
Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mrs. Beed was born March 31, 1916 in Orchard, NE to Isaac and Jennie (Lewis) Spar.
She attended school in New York in her early years and then moved with her family to Battle Creek, NE where she attended school.
After her schooling she worked with her parents in their motel in Battle Creek.
Fern was united in marriage to Charles Beed on August 22, 1934 in Tilden. The couple lived in New York and then moved to Nebraska. They lived most of their lives in Palmer.
Her husband, Charles died on November 30, 1988. Fern continued to live in Palmer until recently moving to the Golden Living Center at Park Place in Grand Island.
Fern enjoyed flowers, reading books, baking and canning and was a cat lover. She especially loved to see her children come home to visit. She was a special person who never lost her smile.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Palmer and she attended the Senior Center in Palmer.
Survivors include nine sons and spouses, Duane and Myrna of Fullerton, Eugene and Luann of Norman, OK, Arthur and Kathy of Alda, Richard of North Platte, Carl and Bonnie of Palmer, Dennis and Delia of Grand Island, Glen and Sue of Fort Calhoun, NE, Donald and his friend Pam of Grand Island and Elwin and his friend Trish of Palmer; three daughters, Shirley Yerton of Manluis, NY, Carol Seim and Carolyn Kunze both of Grand Island; 48 grandchildren; 9 step grandchildren; 85 great-grandchildren; and 20 great great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles; a daughter and son-in-law, Delores and Don Landauer; a daughter-in-law, Rosemary Beed; a grandson, Roger Kunze; two granddaughters, Audra Shively and Felicia Landauer; three sons-in-law, Jim Kunze, Robert Seim and Ray Yerton; two brothers, Fred and Bryan Spar and two sisters, Lillian and Bessie.
