Don Forbes, 82, of Palmer died Monday, September 24, 2012 at Heritage Living Center in St. Paul.
Don's wishes were to be cremated.
A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Palmer. The Reverend Martin Leeper will officiate.
Greenway Funeral Home in Palmer is in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to Palmer United Methodist Church Youth Group for support of their Wednesday night suppers.
Don was born October 26, 1929 to Everett D. and Carrie (Hiett) Forbes I., at home near Palmer, Nebraska.
He grew up in the Glenwood area north of Palmer. He attended Glenwood School and then graduated from Palmer High School in 1946.
Don was united in marriage to Joan Davis on August 3, 1949 in Palmer.
The couple lived on a farm south of Palmer for a few years. They moved to Los Angles area in 1958 where he worked odd jobs until he went to work for American Airlines in 1960. Then they moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1967, where he retired from American Airlines in 1985 after 25 years. Don and Joan moved back to Palmer in 1986 and helped farm for a few years. Joan passed away in 2000.
Don lived alone but loved to play cards and visit friends in town. He enjoyed watching all types of sporting events, reading western books and gardening. He bowled two, sometimes four days a week and golfed with a senior league for a few years before becoming ill.
Don is survived by his two sons and daughter-in-law, Everett Donald Forbes III & wife Tess of Grand Island and A. Ross Forbes of Omaha; three daughters & sons-in-law, Jeannie Forbes of Grand Island, Nancy & Larry McClellan of Palmer and Debbie and Nicholas Stoffel of Tulsa, OK; fifteen grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; a brother & sister-in-law, Jim & Annie Forbes of Palmer; two sisters & a brother-in-law, Sally & Dale Spilinek of Hastings and June Davis of Palmer; and a good friend, Jackie Shull of Palmer.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Joan on January 23, 2000; one son Ronald Forbes and a brother-in-law, William Davis.
