Evelyn L. Mattley

June 10, 1927 — March 10, 2014

Evelyn L. Mattley, 86, of St. Paul died Monday, March 10, 2014 at Brookefield Park in St. Paul.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church in St. Paul. The Reverend Kati Salmons will officiate. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul.

Visitation will be Thursday from 10:00 a.m., until service time at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church or the Central Nebraska Humane Society.

Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.

Evelyn was born June 10, 1927 in Howard County to Sherman and Dorothea (Miller) Winfrey.

Evelyn was raised in St. Paul and attended St. Paul schools where she graduated in 1945.

She worked as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone Company.

Evelyn was united in marriage to Dean Mattley on July 11, 1947 in Palmer.

They lived most of their lives in St. Paul.

The couple had one of the first radio and tv shops in St. Paul. In their later years they harvested honey in Howard and Garfield Counties in an apiary at their home.

The couple spent many hours on Sherman and Calamus Lakes fishing.

Evelyn enjoyed reading books and magazines, going to the library weekly. Cats were her hobby.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in St. Paul.

Survivors include two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dr. Dee and Linda Mattley of Harlan, IN and Dale and Erlyn Mattley of Downs, KS; two sisters-in-law, Marilyn Mattley of Burwell and Melvina Mattley of Kearney; twelve nieces and nephews, Renetta Hookstra, Rachel Dye, Dr. Rhonda Mattley, Renee Johnson, Phyllis Janitscheck, La Ree Olson, Judy Derr, Barbara Mattley, Cindy Fuqua, Mark, Ryan & Randy Mattley; 24 great nieces and nephews; cousins and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dean on December 11, 2013; two brothers-in-law, Duane and Darrel Mattley; nephew, David Mattley; a niece, Cheryl Bleach and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ira & Flossie Mattley.
