Erwin Steffen

Erwin Steffen, 88, formerly of the Bellevue and Ord areas, died Friday, September 14, 2007 in Sioux Falls, SD.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday at Zion Lutheran Church in Scotia. Reverends Mark Middendorf and Kurt Busskohl will officiate. Interment will be held in Mount Hope Cemetery in Scotia with military honors by Reuben Beck American Legion Post # 150.
Visitation will be held on Monday, from 8:00 a.m. until service time at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the family?s choice.

Mr. Steffen was born July 13, 1919 in York County, NE to William and Minnie Steffen.
He was baptized in the Lutheran Faith. He attended and graduated from North Loup High School in 1937. He then attended school in Milford to study refrigeration.
Erwin served in the U.S. Army in northern Africa during World War II in automotive repair services. After his discharge, he returned to Valley County.
He was united in marriage to Thelma Burton on July 14, 1946. The couple lived in Scotia and then moved to Bellevue where Erwin worked for the REA and the City of Bellevue. He retired from the City of Bellevue in the late 1970?s. They continued to live in Bellevue. His wife Thelma died on January 11, 2000. Erwin lived in Bellevue until 2002, when he moved to Ord where he lived until May 2007 when he moved to Sioux Falls, SD to be near his son, John.
Erwin was a member of the Missouri Synod Lutheran Churches in Bellevue and Ord and was currently a member of Blessed Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bradon, SD. He was a member of the VFW in Bellevue where he served as commander.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, John and Rose Steffen of Garreston, SD and David Steffen of Omaha; a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and William M. Elton of Lincoln; four grandchildren, William S. Elton, Julie McGuire, Ryan Steffen and Adam Steffen; four great-grandchildren, Brent, Rachel, Derek and Makenna and a special friend, Mildred Manchester.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Thelma on January 11, 2000; and four brothers, Wilford, Herbert, Loren and Marvin Steffen.
