Emma Christensen, 78, of Alda, formerly of Dannevirke died Friday, January 16, 2015 at CHI St. Francis Skilled Care in Grand Island, Nebraska.
Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in St. Paul. The Reverend Sheri Lodel will officiate.
Inurnment will be held in Dannevirke Cemetery.
A time to visit with family will be held from 5:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mrs. Christensen was born April 17, 1936 in Bridgeport, NE to Robert and Dorothy (Gilgren) Shafer.
She was raised in the Shelton area, graduating from Shelton High School in 1954.
On October 12, 1961, she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Milton Christensen. To this marriage 7 children were born; Allen, Sue, Lois, Gail, Lisa, Kyle and Tricia. They were her pride and joy. Emma loved being a farmer's wife, baking bread, cooking and canning, raising kids and babysitting her grandkids.
The couple lived in Dannevirke on the family farm until Milt's death on January 16, 1984. Emma then moved to Elba and later to Alda, where she lived until her health got bad.
Emma had many hobbies, including playing cards, painting woodwork, fishing, camping, sewing, but her favorite thing to do was spend time with family. She was an avid Huskers fan, along with the Kansas City Royals and Denver Broncos. She loved the times when her friends and family came over to watch games with her. She loved spending time outside and attending family reunions.
Emma was a former member of the Dannevirke Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her children Allen and Maureen Christensen of Palmer, Sue Hieb of Grand Island, Lois Stade and Lolo Faz of Grand Island, Gail and Mike Hieb of Alda, Lisa Weavers and Mike Alloway of Kenesaw, Kyle Christensen and Jodi Lang of Alda, and Tricia and Jeff Weavers of Doniphan; 23 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren and 2 more on the way. She is also survived by two sisters, Jeanette Haag and her husband Dick of Palmer and Donna Fredrick and Fred of Loup City; and a brother, Butch and Connie Shafer of Kearney; and many nieces and nephews and other family members who meant the world to Emma.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Dorothy and Bob's second wife, Clara; husband, Milt; two granddaughters, Chloe and Zoey Weavers and another infant granddaughter; father and mother-in-law, Robert and Clara Christensen.
