Elnora Mae Obermeier, 91 of Grand Island, died on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at CHI St. Francis Health in Grand Island.
To honor Elnora’s wishes, her body was donated to the Anatomical Board of the State of Nebraska.
Memorial Services will be 2:00 P.M. on Monday, June 17, 2019 at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Grand Island. Pastor Bill Pavuk will be officiating. A Private Family Inurnment will be held at the Grand Island City Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Pauls Cornerstone Early Learning Center, Central Nebraska Humane Society or the Donor’s Choice.

Elnora was the only child born on January 7, 1928 in Elba, Nebraska to Roy A. and Cecil L. (VanPelt) Lint. She moved with her parents to Grand Island, NE in 1935. She attended Dodge, Barr, and graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1945. She worked at Ernest Bakery, Hested’s and Woolworth’s until her marriage to Clarence F. Obermeier on April 13, 1947 at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Grand Island. The couple farmed and ranched at Trumbull and Aurora. In 1956, they moved to Elba. After moving to Howard County, they were charter members of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in St. Paul. They helped build the church, sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, and Elnora was President of the Women’s Circle. In 1972, they moved their membership back to St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Grand Island. They moved to Elba in 1979 and moved back to Grand Island in 1998. She was a permanent member of Carl Mogensen American Legion Auxiliary in St. Paul. She served as American Legion Auxiliary Dept. of NE Representative and Deputy at the VAMC in Grand Island. She attended many National Legion Conventions with her husband and was also a Delegate. She was a member of 8/40 Salon #769, VFW Auxiliary #1347 in Grand Island, and was a 4-H Leader in both Hamilton and Howard Counties. She also served on the Howard County Extension Council as President and Secretary of the Extension Board. Elnora enjoyed sewing, cooking, camping, and volunteering. She loved baking for her family, especially her grandchildren.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Kenneth Lynn (Connie) Obermeier of North Carolina, Ethel Marie (Arden) Svoboda of Grand Island, Edna Margaret (Arthur) Petersen of Axtell, Carol Lynette (Dan) Porter of LaVista, LaVern Clarence (Beverly) Obermeier of Milford, Lee Roy (Denise) Obermeier of St. Paul; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
