Elna L. Lassen, 87, of Elba died Thursday, March 05, 2015 at Brookefield Park in St. Paul.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Sunday at the United Methodist Church in Elba. The Reverend Delano Cunningham will officiate.
Interment will be in the Elba Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m., Saturday at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Memorials are suggested to the Elba United Methodist Church or Valley County Hospice.
Elna was born June 21, 1927 in Elba to Howard and Bessie (Waggoner) Barnes. She attended and graduated from Elba High School in 1945. She then attended Commercial Extension School of Commerce in Omaha in 1946.
Elna worked for New York Life Insurance Company in Omaha for 6 years.
She was united in marriage to Howard Lassen on May 26, 1951 at the United Methodist Church in Elba.
The couple lived and farmed near Elba. Elna first worked for the elevator in Farwell before working at Citizens Bank and Trust in St. Paul. She retired as a Vice President in June 1993 after 24 years of employment.
Elna's nieces and nephews looked forward to spending time on their farm. Although a city girl, she took over the farm duties after her husband's death on January 29, 1991.
Elna was active as a volunteer including the Red Cross and helping with bingo at Heritage Living Center and Brookefield Park. After retirement she traveled extensively and began quilting and joined a quilting group.
She continued to live on the farm near Elba until April 3, 2014 when she moved to Brookefield Park in St. Paul.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Elba for over 50 years, the Koinonia Church Circle, Carl Mogensen American Legion Auxiliary Unit 119 and a past member of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include two sisters, Janice Hochstetler of Dannebrog and Kathleen Glinsmann of Shelton; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Barnes of Fort Calhoun, NE; and nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard; infant sister, Betty Barnes; and a brother, Howard Barnes, Jr.
