Ellen R. Sorensen

Ellen R. Sorensen, 95, of Omaha formerly of the Boelus area died Tuesday, November 6, 2007 in Omaha.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday at Grace United Methodist Church in Boelus. The Reverend Dale Lambert will officiate. Interment will be held in the Ebenezer Cemetery, north of Boelus.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Sorensen was born October 23, 1912 in Boelus to Julius and Anna (Rohling) Bernhagen.
Ellen was raised near Boelus and attended country school north of Boelus. She then attended Boelus High School where she graduated in 1930.
She was united in marriage to George Sorensen, Jr. on January 25, 1935 in Cairo. The couple lived on a farm north of Boelus. The couple lived in the Boelus and Howard County area until 1986 when they moved to Omaha to be near their son.
Mr. Sorensen died July 7, 1988. Ellen continued to live in Omaha for the remainder of her life.
Ellen had a great love for music and people. She taught herself how to play the piano. She was the choir director at the Methodist Church in Boelus for many years. She also played at the St. Paul Methodist Church and other functions.
She was a member of the Omaha Christian Center.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Karen Sorensen of Omaha; four grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Fern Bernhagen of Elkhorn; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; a daughter, Marlene; one brother, Paul Bernhagen; and three sisters, Gertrude Sorensen, Lillie Whitefoot and Irene Fabre'.
