Ellen E. Prochaska, 88, of Palmer passed away peacefully in her sleep Sunday, May 03, 2015 at Wedgewood Care Center in Grand Island.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Friday at the First Church of Christ in Palmer. Reverend Jerry Quandt will officiate. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Palmer.
There will not be any visitation.
Memorials are suggested to the First Church of Christ in Palmer.
Greenway Funeral Home in Palmer is in charge of arrangements.
Ellen Elaine Prochaska was born October 7, 1926, to George and Emily Sands of rural Woodbury County, IA. Ellen was the youngest of 11 children.
She was united in marriage to William Greenough on June 5th 1944 in Mapleton, IA. Together they lived in Norfolk, NE and during their marriage they adopted Anita, William, and Mary Greenough, then Ellen gave birth to Jeffrey and Jerald Greenough.
In 1969, she graduated with honors from nursing school in Omaha and worked for many years as a nurse at the Regional Center in Norfolk, and later became the director of nursing at the Coolidge Center in Palmer, NE.
On August 18, 1974 she married Harry Prochaska and moved to Palmer, NE. Ellen enjoyed traveling and life on the farm with Harry. She lived to be with her children and later loved spending time with her grandchildren who she would thrill with her stories of her growing up on the farm in Iowa. From her, these descendants learned what being a truly loving, generous and selfless person meant.
She was also an active member of the First Church of Christ in Palmer, NE which was very important to her.
Survivors of the immediate family include daughters, Anita Clyde of Norfolk and Mary and John Kringel of Hickman; sons, William and Judy Greenough of Norfolk and Jed and Diane Greenough of Dannebrog; and a step daughter, Patricia Prochaska of Hastings.
She will also be greatly missed by 10 grandchildren, and 25 great and great-great grandchildren.
Ellen is proceeded in death by her husband Harry; her siblings; parents; and her beloved son, Jeffie.
