Edward J. "Eddie" Young

Edward J. "Eddie" Young, 86, of Rockville died March 31, 2010 at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rockville. Father Martin Egging will officiate. Inurnment will be held in Souleville Cemetery near Boelus. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., Monday at the church with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Beolus EMT's & Fire Department or to the donor's choice.

Eddie was born October 24, 1923 to Joseph & Minnie (Seifert) Young on the family farm near Rockville.

He was raised on the family farm near Souleville. He attended school and graduated from Boelus High School in 1941. His father died at an early age and he farmed with his mother.

He was united into marriage to Mildred Ruzicka on May 28, 1946 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Farwell. For all his life he farmed and did land leveling.

Eddie enjoyed restoring antique tractors and was very proud of his 1925 Fordson that he restored. He also had a love for Nascar races and dancing. He loved being with his family very much and enjoyed taking his grandchildren to the state fairs. Eddie was quite a handyman fixing many different items including converting tractors from hand start to have electric starters.

He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rockville. He also served as a member of the Boelus School Board, was chairman of the Souleville Cemetery for many years, and served as President of the Boelus Rural Fire Board and Department. Ed was also a member of the Platte-Duetsche, Elks and Knights of Columbus.

Eddie is survived by his wife Mildred of Rockville; one daughter & son-in-law, Jana & Paul Vierk of Cairo; one son Joe Young of Rockville; five grandchildren, Holly Vierk-Hillier and husband Chris of Austin, TX, Glen Vierk of Washington, D.C., Ann Vierk of Lincoln, Justin and wife Shawna Young of Rockville and Jennifer Young of Grand Island; and one sister, Norine Nielsen of Boelus.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter-in-law Jill Young, one brother William Young, and two sisters Vera Stoeger & Verna Palacz.
