Edward D. Hilmer, 87, of St. Paul died Friday, June 10, 2016 at the Howard County Medical Center in St. Paul.
Private services are being planned with Reverend Cathryn Love officiating.
A private family inurnment will be in Elmwood Cemetery with military honors by the Carl Mogensen American Legion Post #119 of St. Paul.
A public visitation will be held on Wednesday, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Jacobsen-Greenway Funeral Home in St. Paul.
Memorials are suggested to the family’s choice.
Mr. Hilmer was born July 2, 1928 on the family farm near Boelus to Edward W. and Dora B. (Seery) Hilmer.
He was raised on a farm near Boelus. Ed attended Boelus schools where he graduated in 1945.
After his schooling he worked on the family farm.
He was united in marriage to Edna Glines on June 13, 1954 in Dannebrog.
Ed entered the United States Army. After his service in the Army, he received his discharge and returned to live north of Boelus where he again worked on the farm until 1958.
The couple continued to live north of Boelus and Ed began working for St. Paul Equipment in 1958. The couple moved to St. Paul in October 1984. Ed continued to work at St. Paul Equipment until 1986. Ed then became the Howard County Assessor until retiring in 2003.
Ed and Edna continued living in St. Paul.
Ed enjoyed woodworking and playing on the computer.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in St. Paul, Carl Mogensen American Legion Post #119 of St. Paul and the VFW Post #347.
Survivors include his wife, Edna of St. Paul; a daughter and son-in-law, Jane and John Wortman of Boelus; five grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; and a sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Ron Obermeier of Cairo.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Kenneth Hilmer; and two brothers and a sister-in-law, Arnold and Marge Hilmer and Walter Hilmer.
